International Dinner

This weekend Terralyn and I went to an "International Dinner" hosted at Butler University by the International Student group. They had a Carribean theme, although I'm not sure you could really tell (the food was a bit...uhhhmmmm....non-International in my opinion). But the profits went to help International schools overseas that are struggling with school supplies for their students. Here is Terralyn and I after eating dinner waiting on the entertainment of the evening (salsa dancing).

Mona Live....

So, if any of you want to come and visit me, check out this:

http://interactive.ihets.org/r40705920/ (if this link doesn't work, copy and paste it into your address bar).

Push the guest button (to the right of the login box), type in your name and you will enter a "meeting room" that I set up. If I'm working in my office, you should see me (I have my webcam set up). You can use the chat box to talk to me if you doen't have a microphone/headset.

This should be an interesting test. :)

Oh, and no gaurantees that I'll be there if you are checking out the link a day or more after today's post.

Look at me! I'm on TV!

Butler University beat Old Dominion yesterday, 57 to 46. I'm referring to college basketball for those of my family members and friends who don't follow sports. To show our support for the team, a larger classroom on campus was set up to watch the game with a projector. People from every department came out to watch the game and cheer on the team. Even the mascot, Blue (a feisty, cute bulldog) came out to "watch." WishTV 8 and FOX59 were both there to cover our antics. There is a shot of all of us cheering (either when they won or when they scored) and it got on TV. There is a split-second shot of me that they played last night. I nabbed it from their website. See me circled in the pic here. You can watch the actual video on wishtv.com, but you'd have to pause it just right to see me.

Eastern Europe, here I come....

I bought my ticket this week to Italy! I'll be traveling to Milan and (hopefully, assuming she can get away from work) meeting up with my friend, Megan, at the end of May until mid June. We'll spend about a week in Italy and then I'll meet up with James. I'll either fly into Albania and travel north with him or he'll fly into somewhere (maybe Venice? maybe Slovenia?) and we'll travel south. Either way, we'll be visiting several countries - Slovenia, Croatia and, of course, Albania (where he is located for Peace Corps). I'll be gone 3 weeks, 2 days and all the countries are places I've never been before. I'm very excited!! I bought an Eastern Europe book and will be buying a book for Italy soon, too. Yay for vacations!!!!

Oh, and by the way...I wasn't able to go on the Alternative Spring Break. I got sick and my recovery didn't go so well......so I ended up canceling the trip. I was bummed, but self-care was more important at that point.

Farewell my Old Friend Part II

The Geo will be hauled away tonight. I got it all ready, including getting the license plate off. As you can see, the screws were rusted in. I used a screw driver, pliers, a hammer, a hammer with a screwdriver and after a frustrating 15 minutes of messing with it, I decided that the hammer was the best tool for the job. Although I didn't use it in a way that most people might for this job, as you can see in the pic. Hey, it's off!!!!

Farewell my Old Friend

I called Wheels for Sight the other day. They take car donations and use the money they make to try to prevent blindness. They work with an auction house that deals with the logistics. They will call me sometime this week to arrange a time to pick up the Geo. I have several more pics on my Flickr site, but here are some of my favorites. The front of the car for those of you who forgot what she looked like. The other picture of one of her rust "spots," which was really a big hole. And, her final demise....notice the muffler pipe dangling underneath of the final photo? I just couldn't bring myself to fix this little problem.

Alternative Spring Break

I'll be leaving March 9th for an Alternative Spring Break with Butler University students (and my co-worker/friend, Tyler)! The Leadership and Service Education office at Butler organizes spring break events that are meaningful for Butler students. They need leaders to help out and I volunteered my time. So, for 5 days I'll be in New Iberia, Louisiana to aid in rebuilding efforts from Hurricane Rita. I'll be working side-by-side with the students with reconstruction, etc. And, I get to drive a van. YAY! Driving big cars is fun. Oh, and the best part....since it's a Butler University event, I don't have to take vacation for the time I'll be off from work. It's motivation for employees to give back to the University. How cool is that??!!

I'll be sure and take lots of pictures so I can share with ya'll!
